1. File Encryption
Every file uploaded to our servers is encrypted using the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with a 256-bit key. AES is the symmetric-key encryption standard adopted by the U.S. government. In addition to the file itself, filenames are also encrypted.
2. Password-based File Encryption
Each file is encrypted using a unique 256-bit key. As an option, you may provide a password that is used to create this key. By providing a password, Send Files Securely cannot view your encrypted files and cannot recover files in the event you forget your password. The files remain securely encrypted until you or someone you've given the password to retrieves the file.
For this reason, passwords should be as long as possible and use a variety of uppercase, lowercase, numeric, and special characters.
3. Transport Encryption
Everything from your computer to our servers is protected by SSL encryption. You'll notice all of our pages begin with https://. The "s" stands for Secure. This is the same technology online banks use.
